Summer is over and now back to our meeting schedule.  Well maybe summer isn’t over but the summer season is winding down here in Northern New York. The next meeting is Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at 7:00 PM in La Hacienda Recreation Center. Donuts, coffee and tea will be furnished.

SPEAKER

Ron Lamoly (Sgt/MASP Ret.) and Captain Dennis Strow of the Marion County SO will be bringing 2 restored Police Cruisers (MASP & MCSO) to the meeting.  Captain Strow is Florida’s Regional Director of the Emergency Vehicle Owners and Operators of America.  Captain Strow began his career with the MCSO at the age of 16 (1971) while still in High School as a part time dispatcher 5 days a week.  After graduation from high school, he attended police recruit school and was the first 18 year old Deputy Sheriff in Florida.  He worked the next 13 months in the county jail, then transferred to patrol duty.  He served as patrol sergeant, traffic unit sergeant, lieutenant (District Commander) for the Dunnellon District, SR-200 District, Ocklawaha District and Silver Springs Shores District.  As a  Captain served as watch commander, and public information officer.  Currently he serves as assistant bureau chief, community policing bureau which takes in communications division, records, STAR (reporting system), marine patrol, patrol deputies, property crimes detectives, and district commanders.  Holds an AS degree, graduated from the 80th AOC Southern Police Institute.  Married 32 years and has 2 children.  They are hoping to bring a restored antique Fire Truck also.  He has also located another antique fire truck that may be of interest and a great opportunity for some members. They will discuss their organization and try to stimulate interest in restoring police and fire vehicles.
